Halloween costumes

It seems we’ve been busy again lately, or at least it feels like it because I’ve been meaning to get some photos of Anna and Milo in their Halloween costume(s) up here on the blog, and just haven’t gotten around to it…

annas doctor costume.JPG

Anna had two costumes this year. This is the doctor’s outfit we put together for some Halloween festivites they were having at her school. It’s pretty much a scrub shirt with a belt, and one of those head mirror things that we made from one of our headlamps and some carboard and aluminum foil. And her stethoscope of course. We also gave her a pack of band aids for her pocket, and I’m told (I was at work) that she set up a little doctors office and put bandaids on all the other kids. She came home with one smack in the middle of her forehead and it was on there all day…(and almost all night because I couldn’t get it off).

Anna’s other costume was this fairie costume that my mom and Nicki made while were back in Minnesota last month. A lot of work and love went into making it, that’s for sure. Anna was pretty excited about it and wore it everywhere for a couple of days. This is her and her friend Violet hanging out on our front porch.

More Anna and Violet.

Milo was a frog, and he was pretty happy and cozy in his frog suit. He still mostly liked to chew on it, but at least it’s nice and warm.  It seems to suit him pretty well, so we may just use it as his main warm outside winter layer this year.

That is of course if we can keep it from his sister’s dress-up box. (Nicki took this picture…she came out into the living room one morning to be greeted by Anna with herself fully zipped up into the frog suit…

I guess we didn’t get a picture of me in my costume, but that may be for the better. It was a little ill-conceived. But it did have this cool cardboard guitar as a prop.  I’ll spare the rest of the details.

Nicki did have a pretty good costume though. A martian of some sort. We went trick-or-treating through the neighborhood. It was a nice night for it. There didn’t seem to be as many kids out and about though, so every house encouraged Anna to take a big handful of candy or whatever they had. We did a loop down the block and back and Anna had a pretty big bag of treats by the time we got home. We spread all her candy out on the floor and let her choose her favorite one to eat. She chose a snicker bar I think, and she ate it without pausing to breathe. We stayed up for a bit and let her help answer the door for the few kids that came by, but she collapsed into bed pretty quickly. It had been a long day but I think she definitely had fun.

voting 2008.JPG

We did our voting the next day. Oregon has vote by mail, so we vote in the comfort of our own home. Nicki and I were having the conversation that part of us misses the old community feel of going to a polling place and casting your ballot with everyone else at the same time, but at the same time it’s such a luxury to be able to spread all your info out on the table or to be able to just pull up a website and do some research while making final decisions.

We listened to the radio all night on election night…and celebrated with much of the rest of the world.
